  1. In an interview I heard recently “Doomberg” said that given the supply chain issues with making enough batteries, eg: mining enough lithium, there would be more saving of petroleum by building plug-in-hybrid cars rather than all electric cars. At least for the next decade or so.
This sounds plausible to me. It would also save the expense of building lots of specialized fast chargers.
Does anyone see something wrong with this argument?

  2. Nice, was hoping they would also lower the price, but even without that, I’m sure they will sell them as fast as the can build them.

      • I think they’re probably accurate under ideal circumstances, and a joke if you need heating or air conditioning.

Heating, of course, is practically free for ICE vehicles, it’s just diverting some of the waste heat. Air conditioning taps engine power, but the range hit isn’t remotely as bad for ICE as for EVs, because EVs rely on extreme efficiency to achieve their range, so the power load from air conditioning faces a smaller denominator.

ICE vehicles could even use Ammonia based air conditioning, and not waste power for that, too, except that it’s a bit more bulky and expensive.

        • My model 3 (LFP battery) gets the rated range or slightly better under ideal warm spring conditions. Gets close to rated range in summer unless it’s really hot. Gets terrible range in winter when it’s -20. At least -40% range in those conditions.

    • No. Those are on the European WLPT test standard. Discount about 12% to get to the US EPA standard which is more realistic.
