Pepsi Tesla Semi Trucks Drives 480 Miles on 100% Charge

On Day 10 of the Runonless real world tests, the truck 1 Pepsi Tesla Semi drove 841 miles with one 96% recharge during the day. It drove at about 60 mph and got 841 miles from 175% charge. On Day 11, the truck 1 was driven for 853 miles and the other each for over 650 miles.

The Tesla Semi trucks are regularly driving 600-860 miles each day.

On Day 10, all three Pepsi Semi trucks were driven over 726 miles in the day. They had 841 miles, 821 miles and 726 miles.

  1. Judging by the mid-day spike in the 4 graphs, it looks like it took up to 2 hours to recharge the Semis from ~12:00pm-~2:00pm. That would be an unacceptable delay in any normal trucker’s long haul route, especially since it cuts into their allowable 10-hour drive time per day.
Also worth remembering is that Tesla Semis have no sleeping options like most long haul trucks and only marginal accommodation for a second driver on a fold down seat.
Still, it’s pretty impressive in this electric truck space, far better than its competitors, who often get half the range at 2X the cost.

      • True, though the cost of that infrastructure hasn’t been factored into the total cost of driving either. They have to charge for a lot more than just the raw cost of electricity to maintain such stations which would need massive battery storage since no grid substation can pump out that kind of power at that kind of speed with a major utility upgrade offsite. Tesla car chargers tend to be isolated non-stations now, but that won’t work with megachargers from what I’ve read. Trucking companies can afford depots with lots of trucks, but what do you do with highway e-stops for trucks? Will they be able to turn a profit and what will they have to charge for electricity to do so?

    • It is for a heavy vehicle (and a commercial one at that) that should be planted in the right lane only. If there’s any traffic flow issues, blame on American’s lack of lane discipline: Slower traffic keep right, pass on the left only.
