Axanar production has released a teaser trailer for their first of two 15 minute fan films.
Axanar is the independent production that proves a feature-quality Star Trek film can be made on a very modest budget — approximately $100,000 in the case of the short film Prelude to Axanar — and outside of the studio system.
They raised $638,000 on Kickstarter through the creation and release of Prelude to Axanar, Alec Peters went into pre-production for the feature film Star Trek: Axanar, with production slated to begin in October 2015, for an early 2016 release. The cast included: Richard Hatch as Kharn the Undying (Klingon supreme commander); J. G. Hertzler as Admiral Samuel Travis (Captain of the USS Hercules); Gary Graham as Soval (Vulcan Ambassador to the Federation); and Kate Vernon as Captain Sonya Alexander (Captain of the USS Ajax).
On December 29, 2015, CBS and Paramount Pictures filed a copyright lawsuit seeking damages in the US District Court for the Central District of California, stating Axanar works infringe their rights by making use of the Klingon language and “innumerable copyrighted elements of Star Trek, including its settings, characters, species, and themes”
On January 20, 2017, the parties announced that the lawsuit had been settled, with Alec Peters and Axanar Productions promising to make “substantial changes” to Axanar and agreeing to abide by Paramount’s and CBS’ “Guidelines for Fan Films.” Under the terms of the settlement, the filmmakers will be allowed to release two 15-minute movies, instead of their planned 90-minute feature. The films cannot be shown with ads.

I hope its woke. I much prefer a show that preaches to me instead of one that focuses on strong story and good acting.
It’s really hard to tell who is kissing who in the orgy scene but there are a few.
Very likely the character’s sexual identities won’t make it into a 15-minute story. Which is probably as it should be. Given that, i think it would safe for you to assume that all of the characters are LGBT.
When I realized that ST:TOS was just a copy of The Odyssey with a search/replace function run through it[1], I could see that it was pure space opera. The original story was set in Ancient Greece, they just changed some of the nouns. The actual science wasn’t part of the plot at all.
[1] Search/replace
Island -> planet
magic -> alien tech
monster -> alien
sword -> phaser
ship -> ship
I’m still watching Star Trek after all these years, because I like the cool sci/fi ship-to-the stars genre and because there are not that many options on TV, despite the abundance of series on streaming.
But nowadays I consider it to be fantasy and very soft space opera, not sci/fi.
I liked the district 9 style of prelude. They should just stick with that and do the entire history of startrek
They should give one of each to the Borg and see what happens…
I would be more impressed by a 15 minute reenactment of Shakespeare in the original Klingon dialect.
they really nailed the CGI… i can see why universal would be peeing their pants over it…
good quality… but i’m not ready for a star trek documentary style movie….too boring. even 15 minutes is too long.
Haven’t watched the trailer but can someone tell me how many LGBT characters in this one?
While Prelude to Axanar was great, the above trailer was pretty lame. No dialogue and just so-so scenes. And shorter than any trailer I’ve seen. I hope their production values for the films are much, much better.
At last some real Trek.
