Caroline Wang

Caroline Wang passed away peacefully yesterday at the age of 86. She was born October 4th, 1934 in Shanghai.

She was married to Chung-lie Wang, who was a professor of Mathematics. They were my mother and father.

She was an artist, painter and owned and managed rental properties.

She and Chung-lie had three children. The children are each married and there are seven grandchildren.

After leaving China, she was in Taiwan for a number of years.

Caroline is 16 in this photo of her family and is on the far left.

After they were married they moved to Canada.

They moved to Truro, Nova Scotia, and then Regina, Canada to start and raise their family. They provided a stable and loving home.

They lived in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada for over 30 years. She lived for over twenty years in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I was able to speak with her almost everyday of my life and usually visited twice a year even when I moved to another city.

Despite COVID, I was able to be with her for two months after her Leukemia diagnosis. All the children and grandchildren were able to be with her after her diagnosis. She was also able to stay in contact with her friends and her two brothers and other relatives. She knew she was loved. We knew that she knew this as well.

  1. Brian – Your description of your mother's life was short but beautifully done, and genuinely shows the love that you, your mother, and your family felt and still feel for each other. In the end the love we have for one another is the only thing that really matters. My deepest condolence for your loss, and my congratulations for living in such a family.

  2. My condolences Brian. My mom passed February 28, 2020 from stage IV cancer. I think I may have some idea of what you're going through. Life goes on. The best we can do is make our lives better in remembrance of our ancestors.

Never forget where you came from. My mom and dad struggled to make a better life for their children than the one they had. I'll never forget the sacrifices they made, and through my life I will make them proud.

  3. I just told the truth
Why was Brian happy about the murder of ten innocent people in Iraq?

That does not seem fair to me..

  4. I have been reading for many years but rarely comment.

Sorry for your loss Brian and I'm glad that your Mother had all of you around her in her final months.

  5. Dear Brian,

I'm following you since many years without never commenting any post but this time I want to. I'm deeply sorry for your loss, my heartfelt condolences to you and the rest of your family.

Thank you for having added a spark of interest and curiosity to many of my days.

  6. May God hold her in His light, and may those of you whom she left behind find comfort in knowing she has gone to a better place.

  7. Condolences. Having recently gone through this I feel your loss. She is at peace and I hope the best for you and yours.

  8. My deepest condolences on your loss. It's good that you could be with her towards the end.

Also: Thank you for the web site. It is obvious from your thoughtful and optimistic outlook that Caroline Wang did a fine job.

  9. You're right about having time to adjust to the coming loss helping. My father was diagnosed with cancer two years before his death, so there was time to say goodbyes. My mom's cancer was pancreatic. She had only 6 weeks between diagnosis, and death.

  10. So sorry for your loss. My Mom passed away last year and it has not been the same without her. We will keep your family in our prayers.

  11. My deepest condolences, Brian. You really gave me a feel of how much you loved her trough your article. She was an amazing person and has a good life.

  12. Are you kidding me. Brian's mother has passed away and all you can do is insult the people trying to console him and pay their respects to him and his mother. You are the most disgusting, vile, repugnant individual I have ever come across. You have no honor, no decency, no respect for others. In my 52 years of life I have never met a more repulsive person. Shame on you.

  13. What a remarkable family.
I have been receiving your posts for many years. Please keep up the excellent work.

  14. Hi Brian. When I lost my father, it was the friends who shared stories of their own loss of a parent that helped me understand that I was not alone. I hope that all such comments here are encouraging to you.

  15. Sorry Brian, my condolences to you and the rest of your family.

My heart from Spain, one Star shines in the sky.

  16. Sorry to hear that, but she had a nice life, was able to raise a family, do what she wanted and grow gracefully her descendants so, what is life for, if not for that?

  17. Brian,

Sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time of loss. Such a beautiful family, I can sense the love in your mother's eyes.

    Take care!

  18. Dear Brian, I'm very sorry for your loss, I have been here since 2014 and I always loved how this site ignited my passion for knowledge and discovery it all started with what is QM? but now it expands to many fields encompassing QM for that I thank you as this site is one of the reasons I have a purpose in this world.

    Stay strong and Carry On!

  19. Very sorry that your mom passed. So glad that you had this presence in your life for so long. She was undoubtedly very proud of you.

  20. So sorry to hear of your loss Brian. Yes, knowing at least a few months early helps as that happened with my mum too. Over time the memory remains but the pain fades away.

  21. I also add my condolences for your loss. Love and prayers to you in this time of loss.

I am glad to hear they and you were part of such a loving home and family. That is truly a blessing these days.

    In our prayers.

  22. Very sorry for your loss Brian. As others have mentioned, your mom was no doubt very proud of the work you do. Will be sending you positive vibes in the coming days. Take good care.

  23. I'm sorry to hear about that, and I'm glad she had a good life. I've been spending a lot more time with my folks lately. Our lives are so short, and we only have this one chance to spend it with those we care about. I'm glad you used yours well.

Remember that you can take time off from work. We'll still be here. Maybe call in the guest writers for a bit.

  24. My sincere condolences, Brian. Your parents, and now, especially, your mother, represent the immense courage that it takes to live a peaceful, FREE life. You represent all of the wonderful attributes of those parents. I thank both of them for conveying to you what it takes to live a full life. Your family is an icon for the most venerable traits of the Western world. I'm sorry you have to experience the loss of your mother. Your tribute to her was beautiful. Best wishes..

  25. My condolences for your loss. Just lost mine as well to cancer so I have an idea what you are going through.
The Love and warmth of Mothers always makes their loss heart wrenching and painful. Glad you were able to surround her with Love until the end.

  26. Once when I was young I spammed full a soccer forum with the crudest vulgarities. The next day I couldn't write in it anymore from any public internet place in the entire town. Hope that makes you laugh a little!

You Brian are smarter and have better software than some soccer guys many years ago.

For us it's only about reading comfort to get rid of that spam as I prefer to politely call it.

If I were you I had already contacted the police in Italy (?) for grossly disturbing an act of condolence.

  27. Im also from the silent majority reading your blog since ages but never commented previously.. my heartfelt condolences for you loss Brian, my thoughts are with you!

  28. Hi Brian, have been reading this blog for a very long time. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

  29. Sorry to hear – glad you could get some time with her despite the pandemic.

Humanity really needs to finally beat cancer.

  30. Condolences to you and your family, Brian. From what you show, it seems like your mother lived a very full life. Mothers are amazing people.

  31. Sorry to hear about your loss. My condolence to your family. Time will heal much of the hurt, but you will also feel the sense of loss.

  32. I lost my dad 13 years ago due to an environmentally caused leukemia, and I still feel the loss greatly. We spoke every day, as I still speak with my mom. My grandparents too are past. Family always seemed to mater more to me than others around me, and I always endeavored to have good relations with all of them, even if they did not care for one another.Β
May all your memories be positive and ultimately strengthening.

  33. My condolences Brian. I have followed NBF for… well, I am not sure. Probably over 10 years? (found emails of myself sending me NBF links back in 2011…)

My sister was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 35 a couple of years ago. I was a bone marrow donor (luckily 100% compatible). She is in remission, but still fighting a breast cancer that keeps coming back (it was probably the strong chemo to fight the breast cancer that caused the leukemia, actually)

    Best wishes from Brazil.

  34. Brian,
I've been reading your site for over a decade. Your news site is a beacon of hope in a dark and cruel world. I really appreciate what you do on this site. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mother is proud of you. Thank you for all you do.

  35. I'm so sorry for your loss. You have been a way better son than I've managed to be until now; I'll make sure to keep this post of yours and re-read it from time to time; makes one realize how fortunate we are, those of us who still have our parents around. Thanks for sharing.

  36. So sorry for your loss Brian. Like some here today I also never posted before. I lost my mom last year as well. It was a heavy blow. I hope your mother's memory lives on in her children and grandchildren.

  37. I've been reading this blog for a very long time, but rarely comment.

Very sorry for your loss Brian, my condolences to you and the rest of your family.

  38. i am sorry to hear your Momma died, Brian… prayers for you and your family during this time… -she raised at least one brilliant son!! πŸ™‚

  39. Very sorry Brian. I don't have much to say other than I've lost both my parents and I understand. One thing I held onto was that I made time for them while I could; I'm glad you'll have that too.

  40. There was a time to adjust due to the diagnosis 6 months, so I am ok. However, I know from the passing of my Dad 9 years ago, that we always think of those who were very close. I am fortunate that the many memories are happy ones.

  41. Sorry to read this.
One sad fact of life is that we have to endure the death of our parents.
That it is normal doesn't make it any easier.
Sounds like she was a life well lived.

  42. When my mother died, It devastated me. I hope you have an easier time of it.
One thing that may help is after the funeral, to go on a trip somewhere new to you. You will not be reminded of your loss as often as in familiar surroundings.

  43. Very sorry to hear about your loss. She sounded like a wonderful woman.
Thoughts and prayers in this tough time, Brian.

  44. Brian,
I've been reading your site for over a decade. Since I was in high school. You've introduced me to everything from crypto currency (would have been rich had I listened to you earlier) to spacex. I really appreciate what you do on this site. I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mother was proud of you I'm sure. Thank you for all you do.
