Egyptian Intelligence Claim Israel Was Told Something Big Was Coming

An Egyptian intelligence official said that Jerusalem had ignored repeated warnings that the Gaza-based terror group was planning something big — which included an apparent direct notice from Cairo’s intelligence minister to the prime minister.

Israeli officials were focused on the West Bank and played down the threat from Gaza.

The Gaza Strip was surrounded by seven crossings that were designated for the movement of people and goods into and out of the Strip.

Not all of them are still in use. After Israel imposed the blockade in 2007, all crossings were shut down except for the Rafah and Beit Hanoun crossings, which were designated for the movement of people, and the Karem Abu Salem crossing, which was designated for the transport of goods.

It would be too easy for Mossad to monitor and check for payoffs or that much materials getting passed through at Rafah or the other checkpoint. A lot of material smuggled via water would again be detected. There must be significant tunnels likely on the Egypt side. Iran must be smuggling through Egypt into Gaza via buildings on either side of the border that pass into large tunnels. Israel has to create a wide exclusion zone (1500 meters wide) within Gaza – buildings removed and triple layer walls. A channel of water in one of the layers. And a deep open air channel – super deep manmade excavation trench to expose tunnels trying to go from Egypt to Gaza.

This would be a project after the current fighting is resolved.

  1. Does anyone believe this? Egypt has no love of Israel, and it’s not hard to imagine that they would sow doubt by throwing out a lie intended to shame and indict Israel.

  2. Netanyahu gained a lot politically from the Hamas attack. Did he deliberately allow it? Probably not, but it happened on his watch when he had a lot to gain from the unity it could be expected to produce. Did the turmoil he created in Israeli society and strong opposition to his policies by the military and intelligence services set the stage for the attack? Certainly. This piece of information doesn’t help deflect his responsibility.

    • Politics is indeed a game of opportunity as well, where the spoils can go to the one at the right place and moment.

But suggesting any politician would be OK with barbaric acts against their own people, just to rile them up and/or getting them onboard with an agenda, approaches slanderous levels of disinformation.

  3. The problem is that you typically get intelligence reports on 500% of the attacks that actually happen…

It does seem remarkable that they could accumulate that much in the way of munitions without it being detected.

As far I know, Mossad has nothing to do regarding this issue. I am not sure, but I think that Mossad is more for external intelligence operations. I may be wrong, but I think that this may be a issue for Aman (military intelligence) or Shin Bet (internal security).
    Great article, as always.

  5. We don’t come to NextBigFuture for the latest Israeli-Palestinian war updates. How about sticking to science and technology? Or is NextBigFuture all about click baiting and rage posting for $$$?

    • NBF updated also about Ukraine and also other major conflicts or potential conflicts. That has always been within the scope of this blog. NBF is not only about tech, and never has been. But you don’t have to read what you’re not interested in.

Regarding this particular report, it should be said that Israel officially denies any such warnings from Egypt, and claims this is fake news. There were many mistakes made but they will be investigated after the fighting is done. Some of the conclusions may not be publicized for many years, but the lessons will be learned.

      • True. Now read the NBF About page and reconcile that with all this current events war coverage that’s unrelated to science or tech breakthroughs and that we can read on literally a million other blogs.
