Ford Cutting Most of Its Ford F150 Lightning Workers

Ford is cutting two thirds of the 2,100 workers at its Rouge electric Vehicle Center next week. Ford will cut 1,400 of those workers in various ways. 700 will move to the Michigan Assembly Plant and the other 700 being given the option of accepting a reassignment somewhere in Southeast Michigan or taking the $50,000 retirement package.

In 2023, Ford sold 24,000 F-150 Lightnings, which is a 54% increase from 2022, but still well short of the 150,000 annual sales the company had once aimed for. Ford ended 2024 with 13000 F-150 Lightning in inventory. This would either be 6 months of 2023 inventory or it would be 3 months for higher targets in 2024.

In January 2024, Ford sold 2,258 F-150 Lightning vehicles, which was a 0.3% decrease from the same period in 2023.

In February 2024, Ford sold 2,578 Ford F-150 Lightnings.

  1. EVs and hybrids that look normal fail. Buyers want to get attention and virtue signal.

Also, the Lightning is basically a commuter. Not enough range to do truck stuff.

Cybertruck is mostly the same, but it looks cool and people will buy it for that. 225 miles at 75 mph (C&D testing) isn’t good enough.

  2. F150 lightning is a compliance vehicle. Nobody is surprised that it is not selling. I’ve seen three in my life. It’s a truck for yuppies with soft hands.

      • That’s hilarious – same for Modern Day Harley Riders – These days Testosterone Easy Riders are as rare as WWII veterans — probably because many of them actually serverd in WW.
