Retraction of SCTL Full Levitation Claim. It Was the Lorentz Force

SCTL has retracted the claimed full levitation video and the claim of full levitation. They say it was from the Lorentz force.

A lone researcher on the team fooled himself and uploaded the video without checking with other members of the team.

  1. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Both copper and zinc have nearly the same specific heat. Zinc sulfide was used as a phosphorescence material in Rutherford’s shooting alpha particles at gold foil experiment discovering atomic nuclei. Phosphorescence requires energy transfer from electrons to photon’s which are bosons as Cooper pairs are. Zinc can be a dopant substituting for copper to introduce slightly different electronic energy levels.

  2. That was really pathetic. What an amateurish way to do science. They are making mistake after mistake after mistake.

Anyway, when I saw the video, there was no LOCKING, which seems to be the standard levitation effect in superconductors.

    • Yes, ‘portgral’ seems to be more appropriate.
If “expert”-driven vertical pilings hadn’t reached solid bedrock in more than a century, maybe “amateur”-driven horizontal beams can reach something solid.

Following the same approach again and again expecting a different result makes little common sense.

The specific heat of copper and sulfur are in a very close integral relationship. That means phonons can split into two or two phonons can combine easily. That’s a type of resonance which can yield a periodic extension of coherence length.

  3. Since 1911, we’ve had “experts” for more than a century and haven’t found this Portugral. It will probably take “amateurs” to crack this nut open.

This endeavor demands broad general (i.e. multidisciplinary) knowledge, not just “expert” specialized-to-a-subfield knowledge. The reason that I’m optimistic this time is because we’ve got social media and near-democratized scientific method with many more people who can join the screening and suggestion discussion if they so wish.

Doing science is also 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Everything is “a failure” in an endeavor until the success. Without knowing the failures, though, the success is impossible.

A number of technologies have converged in this time (e.g. computing power, computing technologies, more sensitive instrumentation, state-level funding..) so we are “well-armed” for success than decades ago.

    • Have you considered the possibility that the Red Chinese are deliberately trying to discredit the South Korean team by “sharing” tidbits of experimental techniques while they go on with state-level funding to win Nobel prizes to glorify their very reputation-diminished-by-Biowar-2020 motherland ?

  5. Glad to see they realized the mistake and retracted the finding. That’s the way it should work.
