The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been testing the chemical bombs which create rapid expansion of foam. The foam expands and hardens to block tunnels.

Hamas has hundreds of miles of tunnels that are hundreds of feet deep.

Israel has also been using bulldozers, explosives and air strikes to destroy and collapse tunnels.

    • The image used on this web page is from Mark Rober’s “elephant toothpaste” video. It is not a “sponge bomb”. It’s a science experiment from a couple years ago.

  1. These are tactical barriers to prevent Hamas gunmen from popping up behind them as they advance on the surface or within the main tunnels. If it’s anything like the ‘Great Stuff’ foam, it’s a pain to dig through, but not a permanent barrier.

  2. It could be good where blasting tunnels can damage structures on the ground. Otherwise, blasting tunnels is easier and more effective.
