SpaceX Successfully Launches Crew-5 Mission

This was SpaceX Falcon 9’s launch of Dragon’s fifth operational human spaceflight mission (Crew-5) to the International Space Station from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The launch was successful.

  1. They make success look routine. I surprised myself imagining something going awry and requiring the capsule ejection, for a change of the picture perfect launch they did.

Yeah, that’s not nice but imagination can run ahead of you.

    • The first time they lose somebody in one of their manned launches, and it is inevitable that they will eventually, it’s going to be a real shocker to people. Hopefully the government doesn’t totally over-react and shut them down for a year.

    • It’s success built on a bedrock of technology/engineering proven through many, many tests and iterations of the design before they even got to Falcon 9.

Superheavy/Starship has to go back through that same rollercoaster before it will be able to run missions like this – it’s not some trivial scaling up, at minimum because the Raptor engines are very different from the Merlin engines in the Falcon 9 series of rockets.
